Artists In Residency Program

MSA’s “Art without Barries” program is delighted
to sponsor a new “Artists in Residency” program
for the residents of the Cornerstone Community
Group Homes in 2026.

Cornerstone Community Homes of San Rafael is
a local non profit organization which provides
exceptional housing and support services for
adults with autism and other developmental
disabilities.

Despite community support Cornerstone Homes
have a limited budget, minimal space, and a lack
of activities outside of their homes. Further, their
support staff report many of the residents have a
love for making art but few resources for such.

The “Artists in Residency” came to be after
Cornerstone reached out to MSA for ideas to
bring art making to their clients. Our program
gives the Cornerstone group their own private
and large studio with 24/7 access for a seven
month period. The studio is large and supplied
with tables, chairs, easels and bookshelves for
storage. MSA covers the rents, studio insurance,
provided $500 in new art supplies, and many of
our artists donate canvas and supplies to the
group. Residents come in small groups of 6-10 at
a time and attend almost daily, usually for about
an hour or two. The home’s staff are polite and
friendly, and it’s a joy to have the residents visit
us regularly. They proudly display their art on
their studio walls.

On behalf of the Cornerstone Community Group
Homes, the Marin Society of Artists want to
genuinely thank San Rafael Arts for this well used
and ongoing opportunity for such a special group
of people.
